Thierry Henry is regarded as one of the greatest Premier League players of all time, it’s something even Chelsea fans will acknowledge, even though he worked his magic in the colours of Arsenal.

For the legendary and record-breaking striker, it all started in Paris, with France’s famous streets also helping pave the wave for many other greats, such as Claude Makelele and William Gallas.

Thierry Henry was discussing why Paris has been able to help nurture so many top talents, the recent FIFA World Cup saw 30 players come from the suburbs of Paris, more than any other city in the world.

That’s where the name of a certain ex-Chelsea player was discussed, William Gallas, and how Thierry Henry thinks the two-time Premier League winner was under-appreciated, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (14/02/24 at 7:15 pm).

Look, you aren’t going to exactly become Mr Popular if you decide to play for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

That’s a rarity of the highest order, but it’s something William Gallas did during his career and nobody else will probably ever match it.

Despite that, Thierry Henry thinks ‘people often forget how successful William Gallas was with Chelsea’, as he highlighted his ability to play across the back four.

That’s something Chelsea and Arsenal fans can testify to because he spent some of his best years in their colours.

William Gallas at Chelsea

“Diversity is pretty mixed,” said Henry about the success of footballers from Paris. “Street football. We still play hard. The will and the desire. It’s all about football really – football is a state of mind in the suburbs of Paris.

“As you can see, the numbers don’t lie. It’s crazy.

“I grew up looking at Makelele and Lilian Thuram. I played with William Gallas. We all know that William Gallas could play across the back four and people often forget how successful he was with Chelsea. It’s a tough one to mention and why it’s like that.”

Kylian Mbappe’s rise

The one prime example today of Paris’s next big thing is none other than, Kylian Mbappe.

But what’s amazing about the 25-year-old is that he had to head to Monaco, before being brought back for record amounts of money by his home city.

And now the world and his dog, if they had the financial resources, would pay him anything he wants, just to watch him play.

Perhaps fans will get to see Mbappe land in the Premier League, only very few clubs in England have the money to do so, even if the obvious destination is Real Madrid, sources have told HITC Football it’s likely to happen.
