PITTSBURGH — Isaac Seumalo doesn’t show up in the Steelers locker room very often, and when he does, well, good luck trying to talk to him. It’s not like Seumalo isn’t a friendly guy — by all accounts from his teammates, he is a wonderful person.

But once he punches the proverbial clock inside UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, Acrisure Stadium or even Highmark Stadium —where the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Buffalo Bills in a wild-card playoff game Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park, N.Y. — Seumalo doesn’t have time for nonsense. And to the Steelers’ veteran left guard, nonsense is anything not football-related.

Laughing? Nonsense. Smiling? Nonsense. Joking around? Nonsense. Talking to the media at any point is complete and utter nonsense for one of only two players on the roster who owns a Super Bowl ring (linebacker Elandon Roberts is the other). Seumalo started the first two games for the 2017 Eagles before losing his starting job yet still was a major contributor.

On this day, Seumalo must have been feeling frisky when approached by a reporter as he was readying himself for practice.

Asked if he had a minute to talk, Seumalo grumbled, “Mmmmmm, make it quick.”

The news made it around the locker room faster than the highlight of Seumalo pancaking 300-pound defense tackle Justin Madubuike to spring Najee Harris for a touchdown run last week against the Baltimore Ravens: Seumalo talked.

“Don’t take it personally,” said center Mason Cole, who won last year’s Chief Award, given to the player who is most cooperative with the media. “He’s just singularly focused. When he is in this building, it is all about winning and nothing else. Plus, he knows he has guys like me who will entertain you.”

To take you into Seumalo’s mindset, after he made the block on Madubuike, he got up and walked to the sideline and sat by himself. Rookie offensive tackle Spencer Anderson knew the play call and knew what Seumalo was going to do. He met Seumalo coming off the field.

“I was all pumped up and said to him, ‘Great block, man,'” Anderson said. “He said, ‘OK,’ and kept walking.”
