Sony Exploring PC Support For PlayStation VR2

Descriptions

PlayStation’s latest iteration of a VR headset, the PS VR2, launched last year to strong reviews. Despite its high price (currently S$869 on the Sony Singapore Store) and PS5-only compatibility, it was an obvious choice for anyone already heavily invested into the PlayStation ecosystem. This single-cable, 4K, HDR-enabled OLED, 110-degree field of view, headset with built-in eye cameras and environment tracking cameras was an excellent way for PS5 gamers to dive into the immersive world of VR gaming. According to a recent PlayStation announcement, PC gamers may soon be joining PS5 gamers on that dive.

PlayStation VR 2

Sony announced in a recent blog post that they “are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC.” Adding that they “hope to make this support available in 2024.” While at first glance that seems like an exciting prospect for current PS VR2 users and PC gamers alike, Sony’s announcement keeps it just vague enough that we are staying cautiously optimistic.

The blog post does not reveal any potential barriers to entry for any eventual PC-related PS VR2 usage, but neither does it deny them. A lot remains to be seen. All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed, and cautiously look forward to the day of increasing cross-platform integration and the maturing of VR offerings to all gamers. Hopefully Sony’s work is a step in the right direction towards that oasis.
