Troy Deeny praises Arsenal ace Martin Odegaard

Well, Troy Deeney has praised Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard in The Sun.

The former Watford striker has noted how good Odegaard is as a captain and has said that he knows that his Arsenal teammates value and respect him.

Deeney made the comments about Odegaard while sharing his thoughts on Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes as a captain.

The former Forest Green Rovers manager has not been impressed with Fernandes.

Deeney told The Sun: “When I think of the best captains I played against — men like John Terry and Vincent Kompany — they had an aura, an in-built respect which meant when they spoke, world-class players in their team would know they had been spoken to and would react positively.

“And you don’t have to be an old-school leader to be a good captain. Martin Odegaard leads by example.

“I know he is one of Arsenal’s best players and I know he is highly regarded by his team-mates as an excellent skipper. I don’t think Fernandes commands that sort of respect.”

My View: Martin Odegaard is an Arsenal gem

In my opinion, Martin Odegaard is one of the best and most important players for Arsenal. I think that he is a gem of a footballer.

Odegaard did not have the best of times at Real Madrid and failed to make an impact at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he is flourishing at Arsenal and has become a big player in Mikel Arteta’s team.

The £30 million (Sky Sports) Norway international attacking midfielder is a leader in the middle of the park who lets his football do the talking.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals and given six assists in 23 Premier League matches for Arsenal this season. The playmaker is playing his role in the Gunners’ quest to beat Liverpool and Manchester City to the league title this season.

Odegaard has made 110 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The midfielder has scored 28 goals and given 19 assists in those games.
