Tottenham Hotspur told that Harry Kane was a 'drain' on the club following Bayern Munich transfer

When Harry Kane officially headed for the Tottenham Hotspur exit door, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if fans were fearing the worst.

Not only did Spurs just produce a pretty poor season, but the team was playing abject football, individual players were struggling and fans were calling for the board to be sacked.

Harry Kane leaving for Bayern Munich was surely going to send Tottenham spiralling towards the bottom half of the table, but that hasn’t been the case – it has even forced Paul Merson to completely change his mind.

Simon Jordan noted how the England captain, despite being such an important figure for the team, was starting to become a ‘drain’ on the side, as he told talkSPORT.

Every single time, the talk was about Harry Kane not winning a trophy, how he needs to leave to achieve that and do individual honours mean more than team honours.

Well, with the 30-year-old now out of the picture and smashing it in the colours of Bayern Munich, his former side are going great guns themselves.

Simon Jordan pointed out how, when Harry Kane was at the club, players possibly didn’t ‘step forward’ as they should and that is happening now.

Life after Harry Kane

“I always felt with Ange, and as you know I am an admirer of his from the get-go, that he stepped into a vacuum that had so many upsides for him and Daniel (Levy),” said Jordan.

“The expectation was lower after Kane. There was always someone likely to step up and fill that gap. There are radiators and drains. Kane was becoming a drain. Not a radiator.

“All the conversation was about ‘when is he leaving?’ And ‘how is he carrying this team single-handedly to any achievements it gets?’.

“That means other players don’t necessarily step forward as they should and could.”

The magic of Ange Postecoglou

One man who deserves huge credit for Tottenham’s turnaround is the manager, Ange Postecoglou.

The Treble-winner at Celtic has come in with a clear style and identity that has excited the fanbase and is full of non-negotiables.

That’s a big reason why Spurs have been able to move forward so quickly without Kane.

Not moaning about losing Kane, but looking at what he has got, improving on it with a clear style, bringing in players that suit his way of thinking and not bulking under the pressure when things go wrong.
