Mohamed Amoura to Arsenal links, player profile and analysis

The Gunners are in danger of falling off the pace in the battle for the Premier League title and fans want January additions.

A surprise rumour emerged last week as La Gazette Du Fennec over in Algeria reported that Arsenal are in the race to sign Union Saint-Gilloise ace Mohamed Amoura.

It’s stated that Brighton and Hove Albion as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in signing Amoura, so let’s delve into the Algeria international…

Mohamed Amoura, the story so far

Amoura hails from Jijel in Algeria and he started his career with local club JS Djijel.

One of Algeria’s major clubs came calling at just 18 as ES Setif pounced to sign Amoura, handing him his first-team debut in 2020.

Amoura just never looked back, smashing 17 goals in 45 games to earn himself a move to Europe with Swiss side FC Lugano in 2021.

17 goals and five assists in 66 games handed Amoura a strong record in Switzerland and Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise secured his signature last summer.

Amoura’s start to life in Belgium has been sensational, racing up 16 goals and two assists in just 22 appearances.

Primarily a striker who can also play out wide or as a number 10, 23-year-old Amoura is a diminutive but tricky forward who is making rapid progress in his carer.

Amoura now has 19 caps and five goals for Algeria, with many more to come.

“Amoura is a rocket and now that he is starting to know how to run, things will only get better in the future,” – teammate Charles Vanhoutte.

“Amoura is a blessing for the Belgian competition. He is an extraordinary player and he has only made progress since coming from Lugano. His above-average speed is of course eye-catching, but his arsenal of qualities is much wider,” – Ex-Newcastle United defender Philippe Albert.

“He is really super fast, but his biggest advantage is his efficiency. He really is a monster in front of goal, even though he doesn’t even get that many playing minutes. In a match like today you can see his impact,” – teammate Alessio Castro-Montes.

We can understand why Arsenal are having a look at Amoura.

The Algerian has been exceptional since joining Union Saint-Gilloise but has actually been in and out of the team with nine starts and six substitute appearances in the league.

Amoura is still adjusting a little and it would be pretty bold for Arsenal to swoop in and take him to the Premier League in January.

The Gunners will see the huge potential in Amoura and may consider him for the summer or even in 2025, if he continues to shine in Belgium.

A move to North London right now would be a little premature but we think Arsenal should keep a watching brief on Amoura.
