Though there are a lot of complex reasons for why so many anime are set in schools, it ultimately boils down to the number of genuine social connections that are made during high school combined with the fleeting freedom that comes with those last few years in education.
Despite how fans might feel about their own high school experiences, they admit that many anime schools would make learning more exciting. Some schools teach about using superhuman powers. Others instruct their students on how to pilot giant robots. Some are so extravagant that going to school would feel like a luxury. Whatever school experiences fans had, there is no denying that anime schools are unique and memorable places.

15 Shuchi'in Academy Is The Place To Find Love (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War)
The prestigious Shuchi'in Academy is home to some of the best and brightest in Japan. It has a rigorous academic program and a thriving student council. However, its crowning achievement is the number of chaotic romance mishaps that seem to occur every day.
Although Kaguya-sama: Love is War's Shuchi'in is a normal school - for all intents and purposes - the many hijinks and events that occur make it one of the most fun anime schools. Additionally, the lore surrounding the school's yearly Culture Festival is enough to draw in any romance fan. School is never dull at Shuchi'in Academy.
14 Kuoh Academy Is The Devils' Home Base (High School DxD)
Kuoh Academy is the main location for High School DxD. This place can be incredibly dangerous to those who know too much. Issei Hyodo learns this the hard way after he is killed on a first date and is resurrected by a group of Devils.
Kuoh Academy is full of incredibly powerful mystical beings. Regular people can even find ways to power themselves up to compete with others as well. It may appear to be a regular institution on the outside, but it harbors many dark and magical secrets.
13 Fuuka Academy Has Magical Girls (My-HiME)
Any school that requires students to ride a boat to get there is cool. Fuuka Academy in My-HiME exists on a far-away island to prevent the rest of the world from seeing its magical girls doing battle with one another.
While it is expensive, Fuuka Academy is a prestigious school that only accepts the brightest students. It also has machines controlled by the aforementioned magical girls. Even if the characters are not magical themselves, there is no doubt that students at Fuuka Academy have action-filled school lives.
12 Jujutsu High Levels Up New Sorcerers (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Jujutsu Kaisen's Jujutsu High is a magical school dedicated to leveling up its student sorcerers so that they can go out and destroy Cursed Spirits. Therefore, a lot of unconventional, on-site training occurs. Although it is dangerous, the idea of students tackling evil entities is thrilling.
Jujutsu High's Tokyo location is deep in the woods and is disguised as a Buddhist Temple. This gives it a scenic, and peaceful appearance, while also keeping its true nature from the public. Jujutsu High's status as a sort of headquarters for full-fledged sorcerers adds to the school's mystique. This school is one that audiences would not mind visiting for themselves.
11 Military Academy Of Grandzehle Is Out Of This World (Majestic Prince)
The focus of Majestic Prince might not be the academic city that all the lead characters come from. However, any school that is in space and teaches their students how to pilot giant robots is on the upper end of the "cool spectrum."
Although the main characters of the Military Academy of Grandzehle eventually have to go and fight off aliens, they at least have the benefit of being educated in such an amazing school. Fans everywhere are ready to trade in their normal high school experiences for the extraterrestrial education of the Military Academy.

Medaka Box’s Hakoniwa Academy initially looks like a normal school. The only exceptional-looking thing about it is the giant clock tower in the center of the campus. But the truth is that Hakoniwa Academy has a hidden side to it.
Hakoniwa Academy harbors several unique students who all fall into different categories. These students possess incredible special abilities that allow them to alter reality itself. It is still mostly safe for regular students, so long as they know how to mind their own business. Madaka's goal of filling the school with flowers may be more difficult than she thought.
9 Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School Lets Their Students Do As They Please (Classroom Of The Elite)
Tokyo Advanced Nurturing High School is an experimental school in Japan that has a rigorous admittance system, but a comparatively lax system of discipline. The Classroom of the Elite school is expansive - acting much like its own city with restaurants, parks, and other amenities. However, the students can only use a points system to purchase goods and services while within school grounds.
The points in Classroom of the Elite are directly tied to their grades - and other esoteric factors. Students are allowed to do as they please, but their actions could affect their point totals. While it seems like a luxurious school life at the onset, students have to be careful not to lose all their points. The school seems harsh, but it is undoubtedly a fascinating experiment.
8 Duel Academy Trains Promising Duel Masters (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Dueling is so important in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! that a whole school was created toward learning the game. Each student who enters the academy is expected to become proficient enough in the card game that they can enter (and hopefully dominate) the Pro League.

Ashford Academy is the top-notch school from Code Geass. It was founded by the Ashford family and is run by Ruben Ashford. His granddaughter Milly is the head of the student council - which makes life interesting for the academy's students.
Ashford Academy is home to many clubs and activities. Plus, it is said that Lelouch vi Brittania and his sister, Nunnally reside there for free - owing to an agreement made between the Ashfords and their mother. While it is a fairly normal school, the amenities and extracurricular activities that are offered make this a special center of learning.
6 Kamome Academy Is Haunted (Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun)
Kamome Academy is much like any other school - except that it has ghosts. The Seven Wonders of the school are usually there to watch over the students, but dark forces have begun to take over. It is up to the Seventh Wonder, Hanako, to fix the problem and make the school safe again.
Despite the evil spirits, Kamome Academy in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun would be a fascinating school to attend. The number of mystical occurrences keeps students on their toes. Plus, the presence of real ghosts is enticing to horror fans. This is one school that gives audiences chills.

Totsuki Culinary Academy from Food Wars! is a high school for teen chefs hoping to become the best in the business. They partake in extreme cooking challenges and are rewarded for succeeding. Due to its reputation, Totsuki is privy to some of the most exquisite ingredients - making it the ideal place for gourmet chefs in training.
Totsuki is not just unique for its focus on the culinary arts. It also employs a hierarchy where any student can challenge another to gain a higher rank. Panels of judges deem whether particular dishes are worthy of winning or not. This high-paced school would be an appetizing institution to attend.
4 U.A. High School Trains Heroes (My Hero Academia)
Plus Ultra! U.A. High School is the top hero school in all of Japan in the anime My Hero Academia. It is a massive location that allows in only a handful of students each year. U.A. has a pretty tough course load, but that translates to its students being considered for some of the best Pro Heroes upon graduation.
Although the school still teaches traditional subjects like Math and Language Arts, the main focus is on physically and mentally preparing their students to take up the mantle as heroes. It is a grueling task, but who would turn down the opportunity to fight a giant robot on the first day?

Negima! Magister Negi Magi's Mahora Academy is a city in and of itself. Their library is so absurdly large that no one seems to know its limits. There is no need to ever leave it to go to another school because the campus offers all levels of education - including college. This allows students to get to know the city-like campus without having to learn a new layout.
Most schools have festivals in anime, but Mahora Academy cranks that up several times over. The festivals are so elaborate that they rival any amusement park. The sheer size and spectacle that this school offers make it one of the best in anime.

The school in A Certain Magical Index is so large that it is known as Academy City. It is about a third of the size of Tokyo and has almost two million students. It boasts better technology than the rest of the world and offers classes to superpowered and regular students alike.
Academy City operates as both a school and a research facility, as scientists study the psychic powers of some of its students. The school itself is broken up into districts and spans all levels of learning. This is assuredly a complex and intriguing school that fans would love to attend.
